Profile

The Midnapore Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd. (MIMUL) was set-up in the year 1977 under Operation Flood program of West Bengal Government with the objective of uplifting the unorganized rural Milk Producers’ through socio economic development, by organizing Primary Milk Co-operative Societies and strengthening them for increasing milk production, processing and marketing of milk and milk products.

The Midnapore Milk Union was registered on 10/08/1977 under the West Bengal Co-operative Societies Act-1975 and started its functioning in the district of erstwhile Midnapore through organization of Milk Co-operative Societies in the villages based on the Anand Pattern three tier co-operative structure, wherein, Dairy Cooperative Societies function at the village level to collect milk from the farmer members, District Milk Unions at the District level to take care of the procurement, processing and marketing of milk and to provide technical input services for enhancing milk production at producers’ level and Milk Federation at the state level to co-ordinate the growth of the sector in the State.

Later in the year 2003, the erstwhile Midnapore district was bifurcate into Purba Medinipur District and Paschim Medinipur district and hence, the Midnapore Milk Union was limited its functioning within the Paschim Medinipur district which is now Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram district.

This district level Milk Union is continuously playing an active role to establish a network to make animal husbandry practices profitable among the poor, landless, marginal farmers / labourers by providing a sound milk marketing system to sell their produce easily and more beneficially.

The primary milk producers’ co-operative society at the village level collects milk from its producer members and makes payment periodically based on the quantity and quality of milk. The District Milk Union procures milk from its constituent societies and provides various services, like veterinary health coverage, artificial insemination, vaccination, cattle feed supply, fodder cultivation, etc. to the producers’ members through concerned societies.

The Midnapore Milk Union (MIMUL) has established a Milk Processing Unit at Keshiary, Paschim Medinipur with the financial assistance of Paschimanchal Unnayan Parshad, Govt. of West Bengal in the year 2016 and catering fresh liquid milk in packets and different milk products namely Paneer, Lassi, Doi, Milk Peda, Cow Ghee, etc to the consumers.

The MIMUL has established Milk Booths at different strategic location of urban and semi urban towns, Block Head Quarters and Sub-Divisional Offices of Paschim Medinipur district. The MIMUL is in the process to install “MIMUL MILK PARLOUR” at the important market places of other districts and Kolkata.
